Written by Andres. M Arevalo

The Peer-to-Peer feature in the TipHaus Employee App allows you to send a portion of your earned tips to your teammates electronically. These secure and straightforward transactions make sharing gratitude and supporting your coworkers easy.

The Peer-to-Peer feature in the TipHaus Employee App allows you to send a portion of your earned tips to your teammates electronically. These simple and secure transactions make it easy to show gratitude and support your coworkers.

Note: Peer-to-Peer is a free feature, but your organization must activate it before you can use it. If you do not see this feature in your app, please reach out to your manager.

Examples of Peer-to-Peer in Action:

  • To show appreciation: A busser, Alex, went above and beyond for Martha during a shift. Martha sends Alex a few dollars directly through the app as a token of appreciation.

  • To return a favor: A bartender, Susanna, picks up a shift for Taylor. To show thanks, Taylor sends Susanna $20 with a note: "I'll pick up a shift for you next week — thank you!"

How to Access and Set Up Peer-to-Peer

You must complete a quick, one-time PIN setup before sending your first transaction:

  1. Find the Feature: Open the Employee App and tap the Peer to Peer tab at the bottom of your screen (represented by an icon showing two people with a dollar sign between them).

2. Create a PIN: The first time you access this tab, you will be prompted to create a secure PIN ranging from 4 to 10 digits.

4. Confirm Your PIN: Re-enter your 4–10 digit PIN to confirm. Once saved, your account is ready to send and receive payments

How to Send Tips to Coworkers

Once setup is complete, sending tips to teammates is quick and straightforward:

  1. Navigate to the Peer to Peer tab and tap the blue plus sign (+) located at the bottom center of the screen.

2. Select a Recipient: Search for your coworker by name. You can see who is currently clocked in versus clocked out and send tips to any teammate regardless of their clock-in status.

3. Enter the Amount & Note: Select a quick preset amount ($10, $20, or $30) or input a customized amount. You can also attach a short thank-you note for your teammate.

4. Authorize the Payment: Enter the 4–10 digit PIN created during setup and tap confirm to complete the transfer.

Transaction History & Filtering

Once sent, your transfers will instantly appear on your main Peer-to-Peer page:

  • Negative amounts (-): Represent tips you shared with a coworker.

  • Positive amounts (+): Represent tips you received from a coworker.

  • Filters: Toggle your history using the options at the top of the screen to view All, Received, or Sent/Shared transactions.

What Happens If You Input the Wrong Amount?

If you accidentally send an incorrect amount, you have two ways to resolve it:

  • Ask Your Teammate: You can ask your coworker to send the extra amount back to you using the Peer-to-Peer feature.

  • Request an Admin Refund: Your organization's administrators have the ability to refund Peer-to-Peer transactions if needed. Reach out to your manager or admin to request a refund.

How to Update or Change Your PIN

If you forget or need to update your PIN after setup, you can change it directly from your profile settings:

  1. Tap the Profile icon in the upper right corner (the icon shaped like a person).

  2. Select Edit Profile from the menu.

  3. Tap Update PIN.

  4. Enter the password you use to log into your TipHaus account.

  5. Enter and confirm your new 4–10 digit PIN to save the changes.

Why I Have Tips, But Can’t Share Them Through Peer-To-Peer

You can only share a portion of your total tips. The specific amount available to share through Peer-to-Peer is determined by whether your organization has enabled the Earned Tip Access (ETA) feature.

If your organization does NOT use Earned Tip Access

You can share any tips you have earned throughout the current pay period. This amount will reset at the end of the pay period.

If your organization DOES use Earned Tip Access

You can share up to 50% of the tips you earn each day. Tips from previous days cannot be shared.
